“Tesla’s fast-selling Model Y crossover has received the highest safety score of any car analyzed under Euro NCAP’s newest and toughest test. The Model Y achieved a 92% score, while its nearest competitors top out at 89%.

According to the results, the Model Y scored:

  • 97% in Adult Occupant Protection
  • 98% in Safety Assist
  • 87% in Child Occupant
  • 82% in Vulnerable Road Users (pedestrians)

Euro NCAP is the European New Car Assessment Program, originally started by the UK government but now associated with multiple nations as well as the European Union. It tests for frontal impact, lateral impact, and rear hits, as well child safety features, and how severe impacts on pedestrians or cyclists are likely to be. Euro NCAP also tests for safety assist features such as lane keeping, speed assistance, occupant status monitoring (is the driver paying attention? falling asleep?), and collision avoidance systems such as autonomous emergency braking and forward collision warnings.”

Model Y Achieves 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from NHTSA

The Tesla Team, 13 gennaio 2021

Since the launch of Model S in 2012, we have engineered every Tesla around the same advanced architecture that maximizes occupant safety. Today, Model Y, Tesla’s mid-size Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), is the latest Tesla vehicle to earn a 5-star safety rating in every category from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

As part of their 2020 New Car Assessment Program, NHTSA tested Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD). We expect similar results for all Model Y variants, including our Performance AWD and single motor, rear-wheel drive variants in the future.
